Zorro, also known as The New Zorro, New World Zorro, and Zorro 1990, is an American action-adventure drama series featuring Duncan Regehr as the character of Zorro. Regehr portrayed the fearless Latino hero and fencer on The Family Channel from 1990 to 1993. The series was shot entirely in Madrid, Spain and produced by New World Television, The Family Channel, Ellipse Programme of Canal Plus, Beta TV, and RAI. 88 episodes of the series were produced, 10 more than the first Zorro television series, which was produced by Disney in the late 1950s. Since 2011, the series is currently airing in the United States on the Retro Television Network as The New Zorro. Peter Rodgers Organization is the distributor for this version of Zorro.

Eva has just turned 50. She’s been married for over 20 years and has two, teenage children. So far, nothing remarkable. But on a business trip to Rome something happens that turns her life upside down. She meets Alex, a scriptwriter who’s spending a few days in the Italian city. The instant attraction she feels for him, the butterflies in her tummy, the seductive hint of possibility… After all this time, she remembers what it feels like to fall in love and it shifts something inside of her. It reignites a fire that had long been extinguished.

Paula and Raúl, who live with Dani, a six-year-old boy, could be just another couple... They could be, except that the boy is not Paula's son, and Paula faces the everyday challenge of proving that she deserves the title of mother. This conflict, along with the couple's separation and, as a result, the possibility that Paula might never see Dani again, sets up a story that puts the pain of a child at the heart of it.

This literary film is imbued with the disenchantment of Spanish exiles who left their homes to protest Franco's fascist regime and then returned after its demise to find that democracy had not instilled either ethics or deep motivation in government leaders. Director Basilio Martin Patino presents his story, and a large part of the film is based on his own life, through the experiences of an exiled heroine played by Charo Lopez. She has returned to Spain to look for meaning in her life, something that she never found living in Germany, not even after having a child. She is also in the process of translating the German lyric poet Friederich Holderlin (see the 1985 Halfte Des Lebens) into Spanish, focusing on his epic Hyperion. Excerpts from the translation are voiced over throughout the film. As she looks up old friends from many, many years ago, even those who have achieved worldly success are suffering from the same ennui that propelled her back home.
